Please read this review From NO DEPRESSION-The Journal of Roots Music:
Peter Hostage blurs line between blues and jazz on new album
"Peter Hostage is a jazz artist with a classy, contemporary sound. His latest release, Uptown, is a thought-provoking album that blurs the line between genres as diverse as jazz and blues.
Uptown, featuring original compositions entirely written, performed and produced by Hostage himself, stands out as a remarkable example of his artistry. The smooth aesthetics of the production, the suave rhythm sections and the lush melodies lock in perfectly with one another, making for a very enjoyable and moody record.
Hostage unveils his skills as a multi-instrumentalist, playing piano, organ, guitar, bass and drums on the songs featured within this poignant effort. Uptown stands as a powerful testament of how much a single person can accomplish with the right vision and creative inspiration. This is a must for all fans of rootsy blues and elegant jazz vibes."
Hi, I'm Peter Hostage. If you're reading this, it's because you love jazz and blues piano and vocals and you might have seen a performance video or two of me on Facebook, Youtube or the Ed Sullivan Show (or maybe not).
So first, thanks for watching and paying attention!
I've been making music and performing throughout New England for many years, playing jazz, blues, swing, funk and R&B. Nowadays, it's getting more and more difficult to make a connection with people like you who enjoy the kind of music I play. Fewer and fewer live venues promote jazz and blues, and it's getting harder and harder to find it on the radio dial, so now it's almost impossible for someone like me to get my music heard by someone like you.
So this is me doing something about it!
I've decided to release my music directly to people like you who enjoy this kind of music, and instead of blindly spreading my music to anyone and everyone, I want to talk directly with you.
So today I'm inviting you on a journey, the “Uptown Journey” and in the process, give away my whole brand new album to you for free!
Whaaat???
Yes, free!
Just type in your email below, and take the first step on this journey...
Every day, over the next ten days, you'll receive one or two tracks from my new album Uptown, plus I'm going to give you the stories behind the songs: what inspired them, how they were written, how they were recorded, the lyrics, what artists were influences for the songs and more.
Like many artists and musicians I have self doubts, especially about how this will work, but I think it's really the only way to get my music heard by someone like you who is a fan of this kind of sound. People in the industry think I'm nuts to just give it all away after all the months and years of work that have gone into this project, but I believe it's really the only way that an independent musician like myself can be heard these days.
When I say I'm an independent musician, I mean that in the most absolute sense. It's just me: no record company, no PR firm, no managers, no producers, and no band! In making this album I did it all myself: I wrote the songs, wrote the arrangements, played all of the instruments (real instruments), and then recorded and mixed the tracks.
So, what I want to do is change the way my music is first heard by jazz/blues fans like yourself, and I'm asking for your help with this experiment.
All you have to do is sign up below for the Uptown Journey, and if you feel like it, it would be great if you could give me your honest opinion of my music, or just tell which song is your favorite. I would really like to hear from you!
I hope you decide to take this journey, and be a part of my experiment!
If not, no worries! I do want to thank you for taking the time to tune in and support my music. It means the world to me that people are willing to support independent music.
Without the support of folks like yourself, it would be so much more difficult for people like me to be creative.
Please sign up below to take part in the Uptown Journey, and be involved in this experiment.
Thanks,
Peter Hostage
P.S.
Big Bonus! The first 300 people to sign up with also receive a digital download of my previous album The Wayback Machine – songs from the birth of jazz & blues.
